Reality Based Self Defence

Virtually all of the training is done in pairs for example a typical drill might be they grab your shirt with their right hand and punch to the head with the left, we then practise a defence against this situation. Our partnered training methods are much better preparation for real life self defence than standing in a line and doing techniques by the numbers in the air.

Martial Arts Weapons Training

Our Teenage Martial Arts students study the Hanbo 3 foot staff and the Bo 6 foot staff. Skills include all of the basic strikes, blocks and spinning methods as well as a selection of Kata (prearranged series of techniques) from the Kukishinden Ryu. In the Teenage Martial Arts classes we concentrate on the basic to intermediate levels of training with the Hanbo. Some reasons why this training is an essential area of study not to be ignored include.

  1. It accelerates your unarmed self-defence skills.
  2. It assists in creating more intense training experience for our students
  3. It teaches different distances of defence and safety

It helps keep students interested in training long term because they learn many different things, this helps them to improve all round.

Weapons Training

Bo staff (6 foot staff)
There are 60 Kata in the schools syllabus and the Junior Adults train in a dozen of these sixty techniques, we cover a lot more when you move on up to the adults training.

Hanbo (3 foot staff)
Originated from the Bo either breaking or being cut in half in battle. There are many ways to use the Hanbo which makes it an interesting weapon to study.

Martial Arts for Teenagers

For both our High School aged students and our Adults we offer training in many different areas of self defence such as...

Rolling · Punching · Throwing techniques · Nerve Strikes · Break falls · Body Evasions · Knife Defence · Stretching · Joint Locks · Awareness training · Kicking · Pressure Points

This is all applied using highly specialised evasive footwork so you are much harder target to hit.

Knife Defence for Teenagers

Do you know that there are several thousand knife attacks reported in Melbourne each year? And the most common age for carrying a knife is between 13 and 20 years old. So for Teenagers especially knife defence training is a very important part of Self Defence training.

In addition to the training done in our normal teen classes we also offer seminars throughout the year on knife defence and highly recommend students participating in these specialist events.

More information about our Knife defence training is on our Knife defence page

What age are Junior Adults ninjutsu classes for?

Junior Adults classes are for teenagers aged 11 to 15. They are our high school programme, with more fitness, physical application and technical development than the children's classes.

What do teenagers learn in ninjutsu classes?

Teens learn reality based self defence in pairs: rolling, punching, kicking, throwing techniques, breakfalls, body evasions, joint locks, nerve strikes, pressure points, knife defence and awareness training, all applied with evasive footwork that makes you a harder target to hit.

Do teenagers train with ninja weapons?

Yes. Junior Adults study the hanbo (3 foot staff) and the bo (6 foot staff), including basic strikes, blocks and spinning methods and a selection of Kukishinden Ryu kata. They learn about a dozen of the school's 60 bo kata, with more covered in the adults classes.

Is there sparring in the teens classes?

Yes. Unlike Ninja Stars and Samurai Warriors, the Junior Adults programme includes pressure testing and sparring, introduced at a safe, controlled pace.

Why is knife defence important for teenagers?

Several thousand knife attacks are reported in Melbourne each year, and the most common age for carrying a knife is between 13 and 20. Knife defence is part of normal teen classes, and we also run knife defence seminars during the year.

How long are teens classes and how often can they train?

Junior Adults classes are 45 minutes long and students can train up to four times each week. Junior Adults classes run on Monday at 5:45 pm and 6:30 pm; Tuesday at 5:00 pm and 5:45 pm and 6:30 pm; Wednesday at 5:00 pm and 5:45 pm and 6:30 pm; Thursday at 5:00 pm and 5:45 pm and 6:30 pm; Saturday at 10:30 am and 12:00 pm. Simply fill in the short form, choose your preferred day and time, then pay online after booking to lock in your spot.
