Assaults with a bottle or glass were up 48.4 % and assaults with a firearm were up 46 % but the use of syringes in assaults decreased by 20.6 %.

Are knife attacks increasing in Melbourne?

Reports have shown knife attacks rising sharply. The Age reported a 33 per cent jump in knife attacks in Victoria over one year, and a University of Melbourne criminologist said that where a serious assault occurred, it was likely to be with a knife.

How can I learn to defend against a knife attack?

Knife defence is part of our regular Bujinkan Ninjutsu classes, and we also run specialist knife defence seminars during the year. Training is reality based and tested under pressure.

What knife defence techniques do you teach?

Techniques include wrist locks and elbow restraints to remove the knife, nerve pressure at the wrist, keeping a safe distance, minimising your body as a target and protecting vital areas such as the throat.

Do teenagers learn knife defence?

Yes. Knife defence is part of our Junior Adults (11 to 15) classes, because the most common age for carrying a knife is between 13 and 20.
