ADULTS NINJUTSU CLASSES IN MELBOURNE

In recent years in Australia, much like the rest of the world, self defence has become more important than it had been in the past. With both assaults and the use of bladed weapons in Melbourne increasing dramatically, many people have turned their attention towards taking responsibility for their own self protection. While most martial arts tend to specialise we are lucky to have a full range of Self Defence techniques in our style.

Joint locks and controls are common in most techniques (any joint on the body can be locked). Striking is done with all parts of the body such as hands, elbows, head, knees, kicking etc. These are usually done while at the same time applying Pressure Points and Nerve Strikes to slow the attacker down.

Martial Arts Techniques

For both our Adults and Teen students we offer training in many different areas of self defence such as... Rolling · Punching · Throwing techniques · Nerve Strikes · Break falls · Kicking · Body Evasions · Knife Defence · Stretching · Joint Locks · Pressure Points · Awareness training

Virtually all of our training is done in pairs, for example, a typical drill is your opponent grabs your shirt with their right hand and punches to your head with their left hand, and we practise a defence against this situation. However Martial Arts is not just about your body, it's also about your mind. The Bujinkan training methods offer many opportunities for you to improve your spirit; strategic thinking is the foundation of our martial art training.

What do you learn in adults ninjutsu classes?

Adults learn Bujinkan Ninjutsu self defence: joint locks and controls, strikes with hands, elbows, knees and kicks, pressure points and nerve strikes, rolling and breakfalls, throws, knife defence, awareness training and traditional ninja weapons. Almost all training is done in pairs against realistic attacks rather than in lines.

What happens in a typical adults class?

A typical adults class includes stretching and warm ups, breakfalls and rolling, unarmed self defence and weapons training. Higher grades also practise pressure testing and sparring. Every adults class is 90 minutes long.

When are adults ninjutsu classes in Melbourne?

Adults classes run on Monday at 7:15 pm; Tuesday at 9:30 am and 7:15 pm; Wednesday at 7:15 pm; Thursday at 9:30 am and 7:15 pm; Saturday at 12:45 pm. All classes are at our dojo, 272 Dundas St, Thornbury VIC 3071.

Is ninjutsu good for self defence?

Yes. Bujinkan Ninjutsu covers a full range of self defence rather than specialising in one area, including knife defence. Techniques are practised in pairs against realistic attacks, then tested through pressure testing and sparring so you know they work when someone resists.

How old do you need to be for adults classes?

Adults classes are for ages 16 and over. Teenagers aged 11 to 15 train in our Junior Adults classes.

How much is the trial?

Just $19.95 for 4 classes, plus a new uniform to keep (valued at $124.95). We run separate trials for children, teens and adults at 272 Dundas St, Thornbury VIC 3071. Simply fill in the short form, choose your preferred day and time, then pay online after booking to lock in your spot. If it's not for you, just ask for a refund, and if you join, the $19.95 comes off your membership. Your first class starts the clock, and you then have 15 days to enjoy your remaining 3 classes. We recommend training at least twice a week. New skills stick best with regular practice, so twice a week is the sweet spot for learning and remembering techniques.

Who teaches the classes?

Craig Guest, who started studying Bujinkan Ninjutsu in 1990 and has made 20 trips to Japan for training. Ninjutsu Melbourne has been sharing Grandmaster Masaaki Hatsumi's training with students since 1998.
